Many parents struggle to register their young children in a preschool program. Most parents prefer to stay with their children all day, but that's not always possible. Staying home isn't necessarily the best thing for the child, either. Here are 5 reasons to send your child to preschool.

1. Socialization

Successful adults develop healthy personal and professional relationships. Children first learn to socialize inside their family unit, where they feel safe. Children need to learn how to socialize with people outside of their own family to learn how to resolve conflict and empathize with other people. Children will get the chance to learn these skills in preschool. Socialization in preschool is especially important for only children who don't regularly socialize with children their own age.

2. Academic Head Start

Preschool programs often include academic lessons in each day's agenda. Preschool programs create a more formal lesson plan than others, but children will have plenty of opportunities to learn. They will learn by playing and communicating with other children, even in schools that don't have required spelling and math lessons. The child will not feel overwhelmed when they enter kindergarten.

3. Independence

Young children naturally feel attached to their caregivers. Unfortunately, you can't be there for your child forever. Good parenting means teaching your children independence away from you. Preschool will force your child to get through the day without you, even if it's difficult at first. In order to prevent tantrums, consider staying with your child for the first couple of days at school before finally leaving them alone.

4. Childcare

Children cost a lot of money, and, as a parent, you have a responsibility to earn money to care for your child. While you work, you need to keep your child somewhere safe and productive. Before kindergarten starts, preschool provides an attractive childcare option during the day.

5. Fun

Staying at home all day with the same books and toys can get boring. Preschool gives children an opportunity to play with other people and try different games they don't already have at home. Some children have so much fun that they don't want to go home once their parents arrive at the end of the day.

When you decide to enroll your child in preschool, you need to decide what type of preschool program suits your child the best. Learn about the different types of preschool programs and research the different facilities in your area to make your decision.
